PARAMORE
Official Website

Pop/rock
outfit Paramore began humbly enough in Franklin,
TN, when lead singer Hayley Williams met brothers Josh and Zac Farro (guitar and drums,
respectively) after moving into town from Mississippi. The two had a young
band that the burgeoning singer was soon asked to join. Opening Williams' 13-year-old eyes to the likes of U2, the Cure, Sparta, and Failure, the teenagers began performing
together under the name Paramore following the
addition of Jason Bynum on rhythm guitar and Jeremy Davis on bass. Local hangouts and a
school talent show helped the young band members hone their chops before at
last moving up to gigs at area rock clubs. The quintet's sweet melodies and
earnest charisma eventually caught the attention of Florida's Fueled by Ramen label, which
signed the band in April 2005. Working with James Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Underoath) and Mike Green (Yellowcard, the Black
Maria), Paramore recorded their full-length
debut, All We Know Is Falling. The album was issued in
late July 2005, and Paramore jumped quickly into
their van to support it. In addition to a spot on New Jersey's Bamboozle Festival and
multiple Warped Tour dates, they also played shows with bands like Simple Plan and Straylight Run. Hunter Lamb replaced Bynum on guitar in December 2005; time was
spent in the early part of the next year on dates with Halifax, So They Say, and Bayside. Similar to many of their musical
peers, summer 2006 was then passed back on the annual Warped Tour circuit. Lamb parted ways with the group in early
2007 to get married, and Paramore continued on
touring and writing new material as a quartet. The following spring they
recorded their sophomore album, Riot!, with producer David Bendeth and
signed a major-label deal with Atlantic..

The boys want to marry her, & the girls want to be her. Hayley Williams, and the darlings from Franklin, Tennessee
are back with one of the most anticipated releases of the year, "Riot!".
These guys popped out of nowhere in 2005 to give the world a top notched
produced record with "All We Know Is Falling", it sparked an
ongoing debate if this band was a product of a major corporation as band.
Though the band has denied the claims, it’s not often you see such a
young band to come out of no where to release a near perfect release was
far too perfect. I don't think anyone in the band was legal; their drummer
was 14! Ever since then, they have kept growing. I loved their first
record, and really was looking forward to this record, but I still
haven’t gotten a final verdict on this record.
The growth of the band is present. The record starts off with the heart
pounding "For A Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic". The guitars
are at the best the band has ever been. Vocally, Hayley
is stunning on the amazing, "Hallelujah", and "Let The
Flames Begin". Her vocals remain solid all the way through. Lyrically,
one of the most "heart on sleeve" record's I've ever heard. Hayley obviously has been doing a lot of searching and
questioning in her life, and it comes through in the songs. It's common
knowledge that the band are Christians, and she
sings it on her sleeve. But unlike other bands that do so, they approach it
in a manner i think the only word to describe is
it, real. She doesn't candy coat it, and talks about a lot of emotions and
situations many people go through; Christian or not.
I do like the record, but i honestly feel they
played it somewhat safely. The album started off very strong, but it got a
weak as the album went on; almost a generic, formulae type. I was looking
for a little more rawness, and the guys to have more vocal parts.
Matt Yoder interviews Paramore at Warped Tour 2007
How's warped tour going so far?
JOSH:
It’s going great, we couldn't ask for a better situation to be in. I
mean we are playing the main stage, and it is just ridiculous!
Now with some bands, they like to use the same producers with every
record. Like Anberlin (Aaron Sprinkle) The Used
(John Feldman) For your newest record. You chose to go with David Bendeth, as opposed to using the producer for ALL YOU
KNOW. Why the switch? Was it your choice or is it a label choice?
JOSH:
No, it was definitely our choice. We chose David Bendith,
because he's been actually perusing our band for years. Even before our
first album came out. I guess he's just been keeping an eye on us. And then
he came to us and told us.” I wanna do your
record!" no other producer has ever come up and asked us like that
before. All the other one were like "Yea, whatever, I’ll do
it". So it was clear we should go with him, because he was already so
passionate about our band.
What do you think the biggest thing you learned from David during your
time in the studio?
JOSH:
I would say he just made us focus a lot on writing really good songs. And
songs that the fans can really like, but songs that we really liked for
ourselves most importantly. He also made us work really hard on our timing.
ZAC:
Yea, it was really interesting to see how much our timing sucked when we
played. He definitely helps us out with that.
If you could have your choice of a 3 band show to go on tour with, which
would you choose?
JOSH:
Jimmy Eat World for sure.
ZAC:
Failure and.... uh Sunny Day Real Estate. With a special appearance by the Foo Fighters and U2
JOSH:
Oh yea, for sure, that would be such an awesome show. Can we play it too? haha.
you’ve only been in a tour bus for
a little bit over a year. How is life different for you going from a van to
bus?
ZAC:
It’s great! We can actually stand up and move around!
JOSH:
The van was cool because you know like we were like always together no less
than 20 feet apart at all times. So if we had like
a movie going on in the back. Then even the driver would be able to listen
and laugh along with it too. I mean, we still do watch movies and hangout
together, but I mean it’s great to have that freedom of. Man, I'm
kind of tired, I think I’m just gonna go
lay down in my bunk for awhile. But, again, I hope that maybe someday in
the future we can do a small tour and head back out in the van because
those were some fun times.
ZAC:
Not me man, I'll follow you guys in the bus haha!
Your style of music "emo-pop rock"
seems to be a very popular genre nowadays. With bands like cartel, boys
like girls, and even the academy is...what makes your music different and
sets you apart?
JOSH: I think a lot of people can say that yea; all of our sound is the
same. But, you know, obviously, we don't think so. I think just the fact
that we have a female lead singer sets us apart, but I mean, she's
absolutely amazing. Please don't take this as me bragging but I feel that
Haley voice just totally rocks.
You two are brothers (Josh and Zac) is there
usually a clash of the titans with you guys at times?
JOSH: No, I mean we are usually pretty chill.
ZAC: I mean yea we fight and bicker about stupid things. But at the end of
the day, he's my brother, he's my family, I love him regardless, and
it’s great that he's always there for me.
Since you two are family do you bring other family members along on
tour? Is there a case of Momagers and Dadagers?
JOSH: Well, they aren't part of your management team. But we do have them
come out on tour with us. I mean, they are family and they are the most
important thing no matter how old you are.
What are your plans for after Warped Tour?
JOSH: Well, we are playing the Reading Festival over in Europe.
Then us, and Anberlin are doing some more
European dates together. Then, I believe we come home for a few days then
go out to Australia, Japan, and then come back to the US
and do a tour with The Starting Line in the fall.
